PlayStation 4 price to go up by $50 in Canada


If you haven’t bought a PlayStation 4 yet in Canada, or you have thought of buying the console, on Saturday you will have to shell out an extra $50 for the next-generation console.
According to Financial Post, Sony confirmed that the price of the PS4 will go up by $50 from $399 to $449.. The price hike will occur on Saturday, Match
The DualShock 4 controller will increase as well from $59.99 to $64.99 and other first-part games such as; MLB: The Show 14, and inFAMOUS: Second Son will sell for $69.99.

In a statement from Sony Canada said the following about the price increase:

“The PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system delivers phenomenal 
play experiences that will shape the world of games for years 
to come and has quickly become the next gen console of choice 
with gamers in Canada. To respond to changes in the market 
environment, the price of PlayStation 4 will be revised from 
CAD $399.99 to $449.99 MSRP.”

Microsoft’s competing next-generation console; the xBox One, is currently for sale for $499.99. The current difference is only $50 between the both systems. So choosing which one is rights for you now got a little more difficult.  Especially with the recent release of Microsoft-exclusive title Titanfall and the xBox One’s $499.99 Titanfall bundle. At most major retailers the PS4 is difficult to find whereas the xBox One is often in stock.


In terms of global sales, the PS4 has sold over 6,100,000 units, and wheres the xBox One has sold 3,700,000 units, although vgchart’z data is only based on estimates. Specific sales numbers in Canada has not been released.

If you have noticed; early this month most major next-gen titles also went up between $5 and $10 at certain retailers.
